£1billion investment will secure 5,000 new jobs, says developer

The Durham Green business park will lead to the creation of over 5,000 new permanent jobs in the North East, after planners today granted permission for the park to go ahead. This was the confident prediction of David Martin Abrahams, the prominent Labour Party donor and entrepreneur who is developing the site.
His upbeat forecast comes after David Abrahams’ agents received numerous enquiries from national and international businesses interested in relocating to the park. The site is strategically well placed, bordering the main London to Edinburgh railway line and adjacent to the A1(M) at junction 61.
“It is the ideal place to put a business park and railport,” said David Abrahams. “Businesses operating from there will have access to the country’s major road and rail networks, and the county council have already put a new road in, linking the park to the former East Durham coalfield. The site is neighbouring the original Bowburn pit, so it is a major regeneration opportunity which will bring much needed new jobs to the area. It is only 15 minutes drive from Premiership football at Sunderland!” added David Abrahams.
In addition to bringing 5,000 new jobs to the area, at least 10 per cent of the park’s energy needs will be met from renewable sources.
“I want Durham Green to be a model of sustainable development and sustainable jobs in the 21st century,” said David Abrahams. “I have already pledged that any profits I make from the development will go to charity. This is corporate and social responsibility in practice.”
